What the group, and the hotel, need is 1) a hugely wealthy local wanting to give back or 2) gambling or 3) ideally both. Bill Cook, founder of Cook Medical did precisely that with two historic properties in French Lick and West Baden Springs, Indiana. The West Baden property is hugely significant and, until the Louisiana Superdome, was the largest enclosed space under a free-span roof in the world. My wife and I stayed there shortly after it's re-opening and it's astounding. This place could be that way again and there may even be a business model to support it. To realize that dream, however, it'll take an individual with the means to ignore reality and likelyhood (both probably against) and forge ahead. Or the state, but I doubt West Virginia has anywhere near that kind of means for a project such as this. Nor do their voters likely have the political will or appetite. Regardless, it has potential and lots of it. Thanks for bringing this to light.

Are there any photos of the hotel when it was being used as dorm facilities for Salem College students?
I hope to visit this historic site soon!
