There is not a more sad portrait of a rust belt community than Brownsville, Pennsylvania, nestled along the eastern banks of the Monongahela River in the southwestern part of the state. The Brownsville General Hospital provides a great narrative to the rise and fall of the town.

The Lonaconing Silk Mill, owned by the Klotz Throwing Company for much of its life, is considered the last intact silk mill in the United States that has never been modernized.
